Why to upgrade your Opera 3 software to Opera 3 SQL SE

Opera 3 SQL SE is built on the latest Microsoft technologies to increase reliability and security. Discover the benefits to your business.

Opera 3 SQL SE is the latest addition to the Opera 3 family, built on the solid foundation of a Microsoft SQL Server. This means that Opera 3 SQL SE gives you the familiar look and feel of Opera 3 with the added power, security and reliability of a SQL Server database.

Opera 3 is designed to meet the every day needs of small and medium businesses. Further to this, an investment in Opera 3 SQL SE will protect your business for the future.

Benefits of upgrading to Opera 3 SQL SE:

Built on the latest Microsoft technology to future proof your business:

Opera SE is based on the latest 64-bit Microsoft .NET framework technologies, using C# as the programming language and SQL Server. This compares to the 32-bit Visual FoxPro background of Opera 3. By upgrading to Opera 3 SE you know your accounting package will continue to support you well into the future.

Improved security:

SE uses Microsoft SQL Server to provide secure data storage. Windows authentication uses the credentials of the Pegasus Opera Service to authorise secure access to the data. The Pegasus Opera Service securely updates data and controls the flow of all data to and from the Microsoft SQL Server databases on behalf of Opera 3 SE users. This is the only method allowed to update data and ensures both data security and integrity.

Improved productivity with ‘scheduled services’:

Previous versions of Opera lock users out of the system whilst running re-organisation routines. The use of “scheduled services” however means this is no longer the case. Tasks, such as Period Ends and Transfers, can run in a background mode. Alternatively, they can be scheduled outside working hours to minimise disruption to normal business flow. Online backups can also be taken with users logged in which is a big benefit compared to previously.

Improved integration and data exporting:

Extracting data from the current Opera 3 system can be difficult as Visual FoxPro databases are not common. The new SQL database is an industry standard, making it easier to integrate with other products. You can extract SQL data into Excel in a matter of minutes. Moreover, you can easily link to Microsoft Power BI which is growing in popularity for reporting.

Familiar look and feel to maintain business continuity:

For those familiar with Opera 3, SE has a similar look and feel. This makes for an easy transition. Similarly, bespoke routines, integrations and existing data can be transported across. There is no need to re-key data or set up lengthy export/import routines which would be the case if you migrated to a different software package.

No data size limits:

The original FoxPro database imposes data size restrictions of 2GB per file. This forces customers to either archive their data or reorganise it into a manageable size. In contrast, the new SQL server has no data limits, eliminating this issue.

Time to Upgrade?

Opera 3 SQL SE is designed to make managing your business simpler, more efficient and secure.

For those familiar with Opera 3, the SQL Server Edition is similar to the existing product. As highlighted earlier, this means that moving to Opera 3 SQL SE is an easy transition for the end user.
