What is SoGEA broadband and how does it work?

SoGEA is a new broadband-only product which meets the growing demand for high-speed broadband without a landline.SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. It is a new standalone broadband-only product, without a traditional landline attached.

SoGEA helps to meet the growing demand for high-speed, broadband-only connections without a landline. Customers that want to make calls will have to do so via an internet-based solution, such as VoIP. Why the change? Openreach have decided that by the end of 2025 they will close the PSTN network. Their plan is to move all customers from the old analogue public switched telephone network (PSTN), based on traditional copper telephone lines, to a fully digital network. As such, every phone line in the UK will become digital, routing calls over IP (Internet Protocol) rather than the traditional PSTN. This is an important move as the PSTN network is ageing and often unable to meet the demands of modern communications.

The benefits of SoGEA

  • Simplified order process: You only need to place one order, making the whole process simpler and more straight forward.
  • Reduced cost: The cost of having a phone line and broadband is more expensive than SoGEA. With SoGEA, you are only charged for a broadband data connection and no landline rental cost.
  • Quicker install / lead times: The lead time for a SOGEA order can be as little as 5 working days meaning you can be connected quicker than before.
  • Quicker problem solving: You only need to contact one provider to arrange the repair of a fault which makes fixing any issues quicker and easier.
  • Increased flexibility: With everything on the Cloud, you can make and take calls on any device, anywhere, from the same number. This means you can work wherever you want to.
  • High Speed: SoGEA offers speeds similar to FTTC, providing high speed reliable connections.
  • Future Proof: With Openreach switching off the PSTN network by the end of 2025, PSTN exchanges across the UK are already being switched off in preparation for the move to full fibre. SoGEA prepares your business for this change and future proofs your business connectivity.

How to implement SoGEA

SoGEA is not yet available everywhere across the UK but it should be available wherever fibre broadband is. This means that if you currently get fibre broadband, you should be able to get SOGEA.
