End of extended support: Microsoft and Pegasus

End of extended support refers to the date when software providers cease to deliver automatic fixes, updates, security patches or online technical assistance. Running unsupported software presents a number of security and operational risks to your business, so this is the time to ensure you have the latest available update or service pack installed.

The dates below provide a useful timeline for managing your software inventory:

End of extended support for Windows Operating Systems

  • Windows XP: 8th April 2014
  • Windows Vista: 11th April 2017
  • Windows 7: 14th January 2020
  • Windows 8: 10th January 2023
  • Windows 10: 14th October 2025

Microsoft have confirmed that it will be increasingly difficult to purchase new PCs with Windows 7 or 8.  Future PC owners with next-generation Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors will need to use Windows 10.

End of extended support for Microsoft Applications

  • Office 2007 – 10th October 2017

End of extended support for Pegasus Opera

  • Opera 2 – currently in extended support, with end of life expected to be announced imminently.

With two high profile Microsoft products coming to an end this year, it is a good time to review your infrastructure and ensure it is up to date. If you would like us to help in preparing an IT inventory for your business, please get in touch.
